wishing for the sun & sea.

If you learn anything about the Netherlands, You should know the weather is almost always stuck in what feels like a never ending transition between winter and spring. The consistent switch between cold windy rain to a gentle warm sunny day ( that last for only 4 hours), is tiring. It has left me longing for a sunny tropical holiday. Even my husband has been consistently looking at sailing videos dreaming of sunny ocean views ( there is more on our thoughts of a getting a boat to come!). So it has been left up to me to plan this years adventure. Last year we didn’t go anywhere because of the pandemic. The year before that, instead of going on our honeymoon like we planned, we spent our money during a semi-last minute trip to NYC & Iowa for my cousin’s wedding ( which was beautiful btw and totally worth it). Unfortunately, it kept us from having a proper honeymoon. At this point the next time Toni and I go on a proper holiday with just the two of us I don’t think I can call it a honeymoon anymore….maybe just a moon…idk.

Instead of that honeymoon-ish holiday (that I so desperately want and will be moving to 2024), we’ve decided to join one of our lovely friend couples’ to their holiday home in the South of France. I have only been to France once so far, and it was of course only to Paris. I spent a lovely long weekend there for my 29th birthday with friends. I will definitely be headed back there for a longer more in-depth stay and share that with you all in the near future, but for now back to talking about the south of France.

I am beyond excitied to experience the idealic pastel sea side villages along side the cliffy terrain of the French Riviera. Dreaming of the hotel beach fronts with those iconic striped beach umbrellas and chairs, that were frequented by the old golden era Hollywood starlets. Although, it is known as another summer playground for the rich to flaunt their money, I’m more interested in exploring the living culture of the locals. It is something I have found I love about all the places I’ve lived or visited is talking to and supporting those who actually are from the community that I am visiting…instead of going to the normal “hotspots”, that tend to actually funnel money away from the communities that house them. I love to find and support the neighbourhood pub or restaurant. Get our breakfast from the local bakery.

I can’t wait to give you a glimpse into our trip there.
